Returning to work after caring for family
Caring for a parent, partner or child is real work, and it often builds real skills. You can include it on your resume without oversharing.
1. List it in one line, or as a short entry
"Family caregiver, 2022–2025" works. If the skills are relevant to the job you want, add one or two bullets.
2. Pick skills that fit the target job
Coordinating appointments and medications, managing household bills and insurance paperwork, talking with doctors and agencies, and scheduling other helpers. Use only the parts that relate to the job you want.
3. Keep private details private
You don't need to name the person or their condition. "Full-time family caregiver" is enough.
4. Consider jobs where it's a plus
Home care, patient scheduling, front desk at a clinic, and senior services value caregiving experience directly. For other fields, keep it brief.
5. Show anything you kept up
Volunteering, part-time work, or classes during the caregiving years are worth a line each.

An honest note: we use AI to help
We use AI writing tools to help draft and format your resume. A real person reads, checks and edits every page before it reaches you.
- We never make anything up: no invented jobs, dates, degrees, licenses or skills. If something is unclear, we ask you.
- We take out your phone number, email and street address before using any AI tool and put them back at the end.
- You can ask us to delete your information at any time. See our privacy note.
What we won't do
- We will never ask for passwords, PINs, bank or card numbers, or your Social Security number. Please don't send them. Anyone who asks you for these is not us.
- We don't log into job websites or accounts for you.
- We don't give legal, medical, or financial advice, and we don't make those decisions for you.
- We can't promise you'll get a job or an interview. Nobody honestly can.
