CDL driver resume

Carriers screen drivers on a few hard facts first: your CDL class and endorsements, your experience and equipment, and your safety record. Make those impossible to miss.

1. Put your CDL details in the first lines

Write the class (A, B or C) and endorsements by letter and name, such as H Hazmat, N Tank, P Passenger, S School Bus, T Doubles/Triples, and X Tank+Hazmat. Note any restrictions, such as automatic-only or no air brakes. Leave the license number off.

2. Describe equipment and freight

Dry van, reefer, flatbed, tanker, car hauler, dump, or box truck. Say what you've hauled and any securement experience. Flatbed and tanker employers will look for it.

3. Show your route types

OTR, regional, local, dedicated, or LTL with multi-stop deliveries. Include the states or regions if that's relevant to the job.

4. State your safety record honestly

"No preventable accidents in 6 years" is strong if it's true. Carriers will check your motor vehicle record anyway, so never round in your favor.

5. Include customer-facing work

Local and delivery drivers deal with customers and paperwork. Mention electronic logging devices, handhelds, and proof-of-delivery systems you've used.

6. Be ready with work history

Employers have to check prior employers for recent years, so list them completely and accurately, including short jobs.
