Diesel technician resume

Diesel shops, fleets, and equipment dealers hire for specific platforms and systems. Your resume should make those obvious in seconds.

1. Lead with the equipment you work on

On-highway trucks, buses, construction equipment, agricultural, marine, and generators are different worlds. Name yours in the summary.

2. List certifications precisely

Use ASE Medium/Heavy Truck tests by name (for example T2 Diesel Engines, T4 Brakes, T6 Electrical/Electronic Systems), ASE Transit Bus (H-series) if relevant, and manufacturer training levels. If you're qualified to do annual DOT/FMCSA vehicle inspections, say so.

3. Name engine platforms and systems

List the engine makes, transmissions, and diagnostic software you actually use. Call out aftertreatment experience (DPF, SCR/DEF, EGR) if you have it. It's in demand, and shops want to see it.

4. Show preventive maintenance and uptime

Fleet managers care about trucks staying on the road. "Ran PM schedule for 45 tractors" or "Cut repeat brake repairs by moving to a set inspection checklist" says more than a list of duties.

5. Include your CDL if you hold one

Being able to road-test or move units is useful. List the class and any endorsements, but don't include the license number.

6. Mention tools and safety

"Own full tool set including heavy-duty sockets and diagnostic laptop" and "OSHA 10" answer common questions before they're asked.
