Resume for a job fair

Job fairs are fast. Recruiters may talk to hundreds of people, so a clear one-page resume and a short introduction make you memorable.

1. Bring a one-page, general version

Make it aimed at the type of work you want, not one specific posting. Print about 15 to 20 copies on plain white paper, and keep them flat in a folder.

2. Look at the employer list first

Most fairs post the list of employers. Pick 5 to 10 you're interested in and glance at their job pages so you can mention a role by name.

3. Prepare a 30-second introduction

Your name, what you do, what you're looking for, and one strength: "Hi, I'm Lee. I've spent ten years in warehouse operations, most recently as a shift lead, and I'm looking for a supervisor role. I'm strong on safety and training."

4. Ask good questions

"What roles are you hiring for most right now?" and "What's the best way to apply after today?" Write down the recruiter's name.

5. Follow up within two days

Apply online if they asked you to, and send a short thank-you email mentioning where you met.

6. Check for online applications

Many employers still need an online application even after meeting you. Keep a text copy of your resume handy to paste into their forms.
