School bus and school support staff resume

Schools hire many non-teaching staff: bus drivers, paraprofessionals and aides, cafeteria workers, custodians, and office staff. They look for reliability, safety, and comfort with children.

1. Bus drivers: list your CDL details exactly

School bus drivers generally need a CDL with S (School Bus) and P (Passenger) endorsements. List your class, endorsements, any restrictions, and a clean record if that's true. Many districts train new drivers, so if you don't have the endorsements yet, say you're willing to complete district training.

2. Paraprofessionals: show education and experience with students

Many districts require paraprofessionals in certain programs to have some college, an associate degree, or a passing score on a skills assessment. Check the posting, and list whichever you have. Describe the students you've supported (age groups, small-group reading, special education support) without naming children.

3. Show safety and reliability

Attendance, on-time routes, safety training, CPR/First Aid certification, and emergency drills are worth listing for every school role.

4. Mention background check readiness, briefly

School jobs require background checks and fingerprinting. You don't need to say anything on the resume, but if you've passed one for a prior school job, "Cleared district background check, 2024" can help.

5. Use school words

Terms like "students", "staff", "routes", "lunch service", "IEP support" (if accurate), and "front office" help a principal or transportation director see the fit.

6. State the schedule you want

Many school jobs are split-shift, school-year only, or part-time. If that suits you, say so.
