Writing an About page for a small business
Many small businesses run on a simple one-page website or a Facebook page. A good About section answers a customer's questions in under a minute.
1. Answer five questions
Who are you? What do you do? Where do you do it? Why do customers choose you? How do they reach you?
2. Lead with the customer's need
"Need your furnace fixed fast in the Springfield area?" works better than "Founded in 1987, our company...". Put your history second.
3. Show the people
A name and one line about the owner or team builds trust, especially for trades and home services. A photo helps too.
4. List services in plain words
Use the words customers would use, such as "brake repair" rather than "braking system solutions".
5. Make contact easy
Your phone number, hours, address or service area, and the best way to reach you, near the top and again at the bottom.
6. Keep claims honest
Only mention licenses, insurance, years in business, or awards that are true and current.
Fictional example
Fictional example: "Ramos Lawn & Garden" is made up. Every name, business, number and date below is invented to illustrate the advice. It isn't from a real customer.
Ramos Lawn & Garden is a made-up business. Here's a fictional About section.
About Ramos Lawn & Garden
Looking for reliable lawn care in north Tucson? We mow, edge, trim hedges, clean up yards and set up drip irrigation for homes and small businesses.
Ramos Lawn & Garden is run by Hector Ramos and his two sons. We've been caring for yards in this neighborhood since 2009. Customers tell us they like that we show up when we say we will and leave the yard cleaner than we found it.

An honest note: we use AI to help
We use AI writing tools to help draft your write-up. A real person reads, checks and edits every word before it reaches you.
- We never make anything up: no invented awards, years in business, licenses, reviews, customer quotes or "#1" claims. Everything comes from you, and we ask when something is unclear.
- We write to Google's published guidelines (for example, no links, prices or promotions in the description), but Google decides what appears on its own platform.
- You can ask us to delete your information at any time. See our privacy note.
What we won't do
- We will never log in to your Google account or any other account, and we never ask for manager access, passwords or verification codes. You paste the text in yourself.
- We never ask for bank or card numbers or your Social Security number.
- We don't write fake reviews, buy reviews, or suggest swapping discounts for reviews. That's against Google's policies.
- We don't promise rankings, calls or more customers. Nobody honestly can.
- We don't give legal, tax or financial advice.
