Thank-you note after an interview
A short thank-you note is polite, often expected, and a chance to remind the interviewer of your best point. It takes five minutes.
1. Send it within a day
Email is normal and fast. A handwritten card is a nice extra for small businesses or if you were interviewed in person, but send an email first so it arrives quickly.
2. Write one to each interviewer
If you met several people, send each a short, slightly different note. Ask for business cards or note their names at the interview.
3. Four sentences is plenty
Thank them for their time. Mention one specific thing you discussed. Restate in one line why you'd be a good fit. Close by saying you look forward to hearing from them.
4. Add anything you forgot, briefly
If you left out an important example or certification, one sentence can cover it.
5. Keep the tone warm and simple
Avoid pressure, such as asking when they'll decide or mentioning other offers, unless they asked you to keep them updated.

Subject: Thank you, Library Assistant interview
Dear Ms. Alvarez,
Thank you for meeting with me today about the Library Assistant position. I enjoyed hearing about the new homework help program, and I'd be glad to put my years of tutoring to work there. Please let me know if you need anything else from me. I look forward to hearing from you.
Best regards,
Pat Morgan

An honest note: we use AI to help
We use AI writing tools to help draft and format your resume. A real person reads, checks and edits every page before it reaches you.
- We never make anything up: no invented jobs, dates, degrees, licenses or skills. If something is unclear, we ask you.
- We take out your phone number, email and street address before using any AI tool and put them back at the end.
- You can ask us to delete your information at any time. See our privacy note.
What we won't do
- We will never ask for passwords, PINs, bank or card numbers, or your Social Security number. Please don't send them. Anyone who asks you for these is not us.
- We don't log into job websites or accounts for you.
- We don't give legal, medical, or financial advice, and we don't make those decisions for you.
- We can't promise you'll get a job or an interview. Nobody honestly can.
