Google profile description: bakery or cafe

Food businesses get found by people who are hungry right now or planning an order. Your description should make them want to come in, and answer the basics.

1. Lead with what you're known for

Sourdough, croissants, custom cakes, breakfast sandwiches, specialty coffee. Name one or two signature items.

2. Mention dietary options carefully

Say "vegan and gluten-free options available" only if you really offer them. If your kitchen handles wheat and nuts, it's honest to say items are made in a shared kitchen.

3. Describe the space

Seating, outdoor tables, Wi-Fi, a good spot for meetings, or grab-and-go only. These help people decide whether to stop in.

4. Explain ordering

Custom cake orders, catering trays, and how much notice you need. Keep daily specials and prices for posts and the menu.

5. Use the menu and attributes too

Google profiles for food businesses can show menus, photos, and attributes like "outdoor seating". Fill those in. The description is just the welcome.

Fictional before and after

Fictional before and after. Everything below is made up: every name, business, number and date is invented to illustrate the advice. It isn't from a real customer.

Hearth & Crumb Bakery is a made-up business. Here's a fictional profile description, rewritten to Google's guidelines.

Before (88 characters):

BEST BAKERY IN PORTLAND. Today: 2 croissants for $5! Order online at hearthcrumb.example

After (572 of 750 characters; no links, prices or promotions):

Hearth & Crumb is a neighborhood bakery and cafe on SE Division Street, baking naturally leavened sourdough, croissants, morning buns and seasonal fruit pastries every day from 6am. We serve espresso drinks from a local roaster, plus breakfast sandwiches on our own bread. Custom celebration cakes and pastry trays for offices are available with a few days' notice. Vegan and gluten-free treats are available daily, though all items are made in a shared kitchen with wheat, dairy and nuts. Enjoy a seat by the window, at our sidewalk tables, or grab something on your way.

What changed: the "best" claim, the price special and the link were removed. The special would make a good post instead (see 10 post ideas).
