Google profile description: lawn care and landscaping

Lawn care is local and seasonal. Your description should say what you do in each season, where you work, and how reliable you are.

1. Cover the seasons

Mowing and edging, spring and fall cleanups, aeration and overseeding, mulching, hedge trimming, leaf removal, and snow removal if you offer it. Customers often want one company year-round.

2. Say residential, commercial, or both

HOAs and small commercial properties look for different things than homeowners, such as insurance and consistent crews.

3. Mention licensing where required

Many states require a license to apply pesticides or fertilizer. If you hold one, say so. If you don't apply chemicals, you can say that too. Some customers prefer it.

4. Show reliability

"Same day each week", "we text when we're on the way", "we blow off walkways before we leave". Specific habits beat "great service".

5. List the area

Name your neighborhoods or towns, and set your service area in the profile.

Fictional before and after

Fictional before and after. Everything below is made up: every name, business, number and date is invented to illustrate the advice. It isn't from a real customer.

Greenline Lawn & Landscape is a made-up business. Here's a fictional profile description, rewritten to Google's guidelines.

Before (67 characters):

Greenline Lawn - mowing, landscaping, everything. Call for a quote.

After (568 of 750 characters; no links, prices or promotions):

Greenline Lawn & Landscape cares for homes and small commercial properties in Westerville, Worthington and north Columbus. From April to November we offer weekly mowing, edging and trimming, spring and fall cleanups, mulching, hedge and shrub care, and core aeration with overseeding. In winter we provide snow plowing and walkway clearing for regular customers. Our crews come on the same day each week, text when they're on the way, and blow off driveways and walks before they leave. Greenline is owned by Marcus Reed, who started mowing neighborhood lawns in 2011.
