Google profile description: mobile mechanic

Mobile mechanics work at the customer's home or job site, so your profile works a little differently from a shop's. The description has to make clear where you go and what you can fix in a driveway.

1. Set up as a service-area business

If customers don't come to you, Google lets you hide your home address and list the towns or areas you serve instead. Do that in your profile settings, and name the main areas in your description too.

2. Be clear about on-site jobs

Brakes, batteries, starters and alternators, diagnostics, and fleet maintenance can usually be done on-site. Say so, and also say what needs a shop (for example engine or transmission rebuilds), so customers aren't disappointed.

3. Explain how a visit works

"Text a photo of the warning light and we'll tell you if it's a mobile job" is a helpful, specific line.

4. Mention fleet or business customers if you serve them

Many mobile mechanics service work trucks and small fleets at the customer's lot. If you do, say so.

5. Keep hours realistic

If you offer evening or weekend visits, say "by appointment". Don't imply 24/7 emergency service unless you really provide it.

Fictional before and after

Fictional before and after. Everything below is made up: every name, business, number and date is invented to illustrate the advice. It isn't from a real customer.

Ray's Driveway Auto Repair is a made-up business. Here's a fictional profile description, rewritten to Google's guidelines.

Before (56 characters):

Mobile mechanic. Call now. We come to you. Cheap prices!

After (564 of 750 characters; no links, prices or promotions):

Ray's Driveway Auto Repair is a mobile mechanic serving Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler and Tempe. We come to your home, office or job site to handle brakes, batteries, starters and alternators, belts, check-engine diagnostics and routine maintenance on most cars and light trucks. Not sure if your repair can be done in a driveway? Text us a photo of the warning light or problem and we'll tell you honestly, and if it needs a full shop, we'll say so. We also maintain work trucks for small local fleets on their own lots. Weekday and Saturday appointments are available.

Settings to check (not part of the description): service-area business turned on, home address hidden, and service areas listed as the four cities.
